So on one of my first nights in Charlotte, Lerissa invited me to a girls night with a friend of hers, and we met up at Wild Wing Café. Now, it was during the weekdays, so they weren't super busy. The place was pretty nice, although we went up some side steps that weren't... exactly clean. It's on the second story, and part of a collection of other businesses. To the left of it is Gotta Yoga (Lerissa goes here occasionally, so I'm sure I'll be going one day), and below them is an Indian Market/Café called Rajbhog (I really want to go here!), so I wouldn't say that the trash left by some jerk on the first couple of steps at the bottom is their responsibility.
I had the Philly Cheesesteak, and it was delicious! It didn't come with mushrooms (for shame!), so I had to add on those for a little extra. I had also gotten sweet potato fries (for a substitution fee, of course), and they were pretty amazing as well.
Lerissa had gotten the "chicken feathers" with some sort of asian-influenced sauce. It normally comes with fries, but I think she might have opted for broccoli. Chicken feathers are basically chicken tenders, but grilled instead of breaded and fried. All I can say is, FINALLY. I just want some hot wing sauce on some grilled chicken! I want to go back there to try them so badly, but since I'm determined not to go to the same place twice for at least the next couple of months, I'll have to wait on it...unless of course I go to a different Wild Wing location. :) They have a decent sauce list, so be sure to check out their menu online. I know I'm going to have a bit of a problem deciding on which delicious sauce to use!
All Hail the
Queen City!

AMC Concord Mills 24
This AMC theatre is connected to the Concord Mills mall, and let me tell you, it's a pretty nice theatre to me. I've been there twice already on "not dates" with Wesley (he doesn't believe movies are dates because they're so unpersonal), and we saw Silver Linings Playbook and Les Miserables.
[I loved both movies. Good job, Wes!]
On both occasions there were no huge lines, and they actually have small kiosks where you can check times for showings and even reserve tickets... or at least I think we reserved tickets on them. Next time I'm out that way, I'll take a closer look. They also have an okay-priced matinée, and military discount!
If you're a big movie goer, I would suggest going ahead and paying for the AMC rewards card.
Also, this AMC theatre has an IMAX, and does the Metropolitan Opera shows. Who's excited for Opera? This girl! As of right now, they have Rigoletto, Pasifal, Frencesca da Rimini, and Giulio Cesare lined up for Feb-May. Each one has two showings (one on a Saturday, and an encore showing a few weeks later on a Wednesday night), so make sure you find out if your local theatre (if you won't be in Charlotte) is showing them!
Everyone needs to watch an Opera.

Concord Mills
Alrighty, so I've already talked about my thoughts on Northlake Mall (the post is here!)... and now it's time to discuss Concord Mills. Now, while it isn't a two-story mall, it is ridiculously gigantic!!! The ceilings are also very high, as if they might plan to one day put in a second story, so it gives the mall a very open feel. I have not really been in Concord for shopping per se, but more for walking around to take up time before a movie at the amazing AMC theatre that is attached to it.
I like to think that this mall is definitely more family friendly than Northlake... not that Northlake didn't have play areas and whatnot, but the types of stores seem to have a broader age range to appeal to. Also, the signs are bigger and more colorful, and there is a small train (I think?) that runs through it. There's a lego store, although I know I'm in there being facinated just as much as the kids are. Wes, the boyfriend, took me into an amazing store called Candy World, and everything is at children eye level. Who can resist that place? Did I mention that the last time I was there, there was a dinosaur by the food court?! If I would not have been banned for doing so, I would have tried to sit on it.
Wes also took me to Bass Pro shop. Now, I'm not an outdoors-y kind of girl, but I'm willing to try anything once. I just don't like sun burn, bugs, bug bites, bugs buzzing in my ears, sleeping on the ground, bugs, living out stereotypical horror movie scenes, poison anything, being eaten by large animals, and did I mention bugs? I also don't look forward to trying to pee in the woods. Yes, I know, I'm a big ol' baby. But for him, and so other people can't grumble at me for never trying (my poor friend Meghan has been trying to get me to camp out for over a decade!), I will go camping one day in the near future. Believe me, I'll be posting about that event immediately. I'll definitely be shopping at Bass Pro when the time comes, though, because they pretty much have every single thing you'd ever need.. including small toilets! I'm saved!
The one store that I would suggest the most is Earthbound. It's a bit hippie/bohemian/etc., but I love it! They also have some anatomy-inspired stuff, masquerade masks, chemistry flasks.. a little eclectic for sure, but all my kinds of stuff. <3
Other stores to check out:
- Disney Store (Yay!)
- Forever 21 (More like, Forever Lost)
- Hot Topic
- Books-A-Million (simply because I'm a book lover)
Location:
Mills Circle, Concord, NC 28025, USA
Northlake Mall
Like any other 20-something year old woman, when you're bored you want to go shopping. I've never been one to spend a lot of money, in fact I'm normally SUPER frugal... until this past month. I blame Lerissa. With a new life, you need new threads, right? At least that's her motto for me, and an excuse for her to go shopping when she's not busy with work or school.
So far, I've been to two malls in the area: Northlake and Concord Mills (more on this one in this post).
I'm from a small-ish miliary town on the east coast, so all we had was this sad little one-story building, but it had a few popular stores. Barnes & Noble, Belks, JC Penny, Sears, Rue 21, Wet Seal, Journey's, Hot Topic... yeah, not much.
Then you drive into the parking lot of Northlake and you can't help but stare, maybe feel your mouth open slightly in surprise... It's HUGE in comparison! Now, I'm not saying it's the best mall ever, but I liked it. Perhaps a little too much. There are those stores that you can't even walk into without crying because everything costs more than your rent and utilities combined (i.e. Coach and Fossil). If you're living off moderate pay, I would just try to avoid eye contact with those adorable purses in the window. They're a bit like puppies for sale, you can't resist once you make eye contact.
Just a side note, I've just walked by crying because I do make eye contact, but know I can't afford it. I'm a glutton for punishment.
If you find yourself in this mall, I would highly suggest sampling all of the teas at the amazing store called Teavana! I'm a huge fan of tea, and they have an incredible variety. Yes, it's a little bit pricier than buying a box of lipton at the grocery store, but if you have the spare cash and want to have some simple holistic-ness in your life, tea is the way to go. :)
Teavana is a franchise, so if you live in a big city with a big mall, you might have one. Make sure you check it out!
Other stores to check out:
The food court is okay. I've eaten at Showmars and Currito so far. At Showmars I had their gyro, which was pretty delicious! I don't remeber the service being that bad, either.
Currito.... I'd just stay away from that place. It was staffed by only one person when I was there, they were out of a couple of things, and everything had been sitting out for a while. Also, the server/"cook"/everything at the time had her phone on and checked it in the middle of making my cajun burrito (um, ew?), and she also told Lerissa to go to one of the other areas for a salad. Scary. The actual burrito was pretty cold, kind of nasty, and I could make a better one at home.
As I continue to venture into this mall, I'll be sure to do another post with an update on the other food options, and maybe some opinions on other stores.

Other stores to check out:
- L'Occitane (A little out of my price range, but it's a better, more expensive and French Bath & Body Works/Body Shop)
- The Body Shop
- Aerie (cute lingerie!)
- Hot Topic (for those of us who like punk, goth, nerd, and/or hipster stuff)
- Forever 21 (or as I call it, Forever Lost, because I can never navigate through all those clothes racks without getting confused.)

Welcome!
Hello hello!
First and foremost, welcome to my blog about my journey, trials, and tribulations through Charlotte, NC and the surrounding areas.
I moved to this amazing city on New Year's day. What a way to start off 2013, right? Technically, I wasn't supposed to move until later in January, but then I lost a bet to my roommate/best friend's fiancé, Garrett, on New Year's Eve (Over a game of Rummy. Whoops.) and had to drive to Charlotte.. so why not move my stuff up here at the same time?
This whole plan, however, was very quickly put together. You see, for the past year or so I've been waiting for my husband, who just joined the military, to get through all his schooling and whatnot so we could start our lives together at our first duty station in California.
CA? What are you doing in Charlotte?!!
Well, long story short, he is now my ex-husband. I've moved on to bigger and better things though, including a new boyfriend who has already proven to be a way better person that my ex ever was. Yay me!
I promise, everyone, that this is not a rebound hahaha.
So here I am, job searching, living off of separation pay, waiting for my application for UNCC to go through, hanging out with an adorably awkward boy, and living with my cute and lovable friend Lerissa and her fiancé Garrett, and "the ghost roommate" hahaha. No, not Sally from Being Human, although that would be interesting. This roommate is real, and he's very, very sweet (can we say Best Roommate Ever Award?), but he keeps to himself and works crazy long hours. Poor guy.
Sometimes we like to joke that maybe he's a vigilate... or a homicidal maniac. We try to be nice to him so he'll keep us as his alibi.
Anyways, so since I have all this free time and in an area I'm completely new to, I decided I would try to write down all the great and not-so-great experiences I have in my new life. Perhaps, if you are coming to visit the area, you'll at least get some ideas of where to go while you're here! Enjoy!
